Going Green

Going Green

Eat your greens!

Yes, this has been embedded into our brains since we were young. And although we traded broccoli for sour punch straws, or spinach for ice cream that isn't the case now. As we've gotten older needing extra vitamins, antioxidants, and more in our diets became extremely important. See below for the top green foods we're adding into our diet and why.

1. Kale

Kale me crazy! This leafy vegetable packs a ton of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. This food goes perfect in smoothies or salads and is best when consumed in raw form.

2. Spinach

I'm strong to the finish cause' I eats' my spinach. This green is packed with tons of Vitamin C, Iron, and Potassium. As a heart healthy food, spinach goes perfect in salads or as a warm side dish.

3. Avocado

Holy guacamole! This popular fruit is easily added into many recipes even as an additional source of protein. This green holds tons of vitamins that are great for your vision, heart and more.

4. Broccoli

Maybe broccoli doesn't like you either. Whether cooked or raw this is a large staple veggie in heart health and cancer protection. This green veggie holds a ton of Vitamin C and fiber.

5. Cabbage

OCD (Obsessive Cabbage Disorder). While used in many ways this veggie is best in slaw and salad or when cooked. Cabbage is a great source of fiber and Vitamin C but also holds antioxidants to protect your body from illness.

6. Cucumbers

Cool as a cucumber. Cucumbers are known to hold a ton of water and are ultimately a refreshing snack. While also hydrating you, they pack a ton of Vitamin A and C.

I absolutely loved this article!!! You really have a way of pulling your reader in with your wit and humor mixed with pure facts, all the while educating all of us. I love fried cabbage, but when I was preggo’s with your Irish Twin I craved greens. I would create my own recipes with onion, vinegar, all kinds of seasonings and spices that I had in hand, garlic and I’d sauté that until it was fragrant and then I’d toss in the greens ( and it would be a different green each time) and let it all simmer slowly. Then I’d eat all of it to appease my craving. It’s no wonder your brother likes to eat healthy.
